New Apple patent lets the screen see you
A new patent filed by Apple allows a camera to be built into the screen, so not only can you see the screen, but the screen can take images of you.
Apple’s iMacs all come a camera built-in, but above the screen. This new technology would allow the camera to be behind the screen. This would also mean that during a video web conference, you could be looking at the screen and still appear to others to be looking at the camera.
The irony of this new patent, is that the device is similar to what George Orwell had in mind for the ‘telescreens’ used in the dystopic society in the book 1984.
